2DBioPAD Featured in the Graphene Flagship Annual Report

The 2D-BioPAD project features in the European Commission funded Graphene Flagship 2025 Annual Report (page 70).

As one of the European Commission’s largest and most ambitious research initiatives, the Graphene Flagship’s annual report tracks graphene, and related 2D materials, research projects. This year’s report spotlights a highly mature ecosystem including 2D-BioPAD’s showing the vital role advanced materials and AI will play in the future of healthcare.

The Mission: Early Detection of Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s disease affects millions globally and the 2D-BioPad Project is focused on developing an easy-to-use digital decision support tool designed to catch Alzheimer’s at an early stage.

By leveraging the unique properties of advanced graphene materials, the project is creating a fast, minimally invasive test capable of measuring up to five critical Alzheimer’s biomarkers in real time. To ensure its safety, accuracy, and real-world efficacy, the system will soon undergo clinical studies across Finland, Greece, and Germany.

CeADAR’s Role: Powering the System with AI

As one of 11 core European partners in the 2D-BioPAD consortium, CeADAR is leading the training and optimization of the artificial intelligence models that support the system.

In the initial phases, our team applied advanced AI to help select and optimize the specific molecular elements needed to identify complex disease markers. Moving forward, CeADAR’s machine learning models will study the medical studies data to optimize the decision support tool, ensuring the real-time biomarker data translates into accurate, actionable insights for clinicians.
