ICOS and MetaOS: CeADAR at IoT Tech Expo Amsterdam

CeADAR recently represented the ICOS Project at the IoT Tech Expo World Series in Amsterdam. The event brought together over 200 speakers, 200 exhibitors, and more than 8,000 attendees focused on IoT, edge computing, IIoT and cloud.

ICOS was part of the MetaOS projects cluster, which also included NebulOuS, Nephele, aerOS, FLUIDOS and NEMO. Together, these projects are working on the idea of a Meta Operating System (MetaOS) that can manage applications, data and AI workloads across devices, edge and cloud.

CeADAR has led the Intelligence Work Package in ICOS over the past three years. This work focused on developing an Intelligence Layer to support AI-driven optimisation, resource management and self-adaptation in the edge-cloud continuum. To meet the project goals CeADAR:

  • Contributed to AI-driven scheduling and node selection, including forecasting methods to improve workload placement.
  • Worked on violation detection and policy management for more reliable orchestration.
  • Supported integration of federated learning and explainability tools within the ICOS intelligence layer.

At the Amsterdam event, CeADAR contributed to the session “AI-driven optimisation, resource management and self-adaptation”, which was requested by the European Commission to compare the six MetaOS projects. CeADAR’s role was central to showing how AI can act as a catalyst for orchestration within ICOS.

The ICOS project concluded in September 2025, with all releases and documentation available on the ICOS website and GitHub.
