CeADAR Data Scientists Contribute to the EU-Funded ICOS Project at L-PIT and PCSS

Last month, CeADAR Data Scientists Andres Suarez-Cetrulo and Sebastián Cajas Ordóñez participated in a face-to-face (F2F) meeting at L-PIT offices and the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PCSS) as part of the EU-funded ICOS project (https://www.icos-project.eu/). They contributed to the project alongside other colleagues from CeADAR Ireland, including Romila Ghosh, Jaydeep Samanta, and Ricardo Simon Carbajo, who are at the forefront of designing and implementing the intelligence, security, and data management layers of the project.

Collaboration Across Leading Institutions

CeADAR works in close collaboration with leading institutions and industry partners to advance the objectives of the ICOS project. The consortium includes organizations such as:

  • Atos
  • Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya

Progress and Key Discussions

A total of 31 representatives from the ICOS consortium convened in Miasto Poznań to review the project’s progress. The ICOS project is centred on developing an intelligent operating system that seamlessly integrates IoT, edge, and cloud resources. Its objective is to facilitate secure and efficient data exchange among devices while optimizing resource allocation and improving information processing.

A key focus of ŁukasiewiczPIT within this initiative is to validate the system’s functionality using a field farming robot. The three-day meeting included two days at ŁukasiewiczPIT, where participants engaged in discussions on various aspects of the ICOS project, including:

  • Key performance indicator (KPI) validation
  • Development of intelligence and data management layers
  • Implementation of use cases
  • Strategies for maximizing project impact

A portion of the meeting also took place at the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC), a key partner in the project. The PSNC is one of the recent European AI factories. The discussions and demonstrations further reinforced the collaborative effort driving the success of ICOS.

As the project progresses, CeADAR remains committed to contributing expertise and innovation to help achieve the ambitious goals of ICOS.
