The Centre is led by the Industry Steering Board, whose role is to support the full-time Centre Director in determining the overall vision and strategic direction for the organisation. Mike Brosnan

Edward McDonnell
Edward McDonnell is the Director of the National Centre for Applied Data Analytics & Machine Intelligence CeADAR. The Centre, funded by EI and the IDA, has over 80 member companies across a wide span of industries. CeADAR’s primary focus is on delivering industry prototypes, technology demonstrators and state-of-the-art reviews. The Centre won i-Spaces accreditation from the EU’s BDVA in 2018 and the Dunn & Bradstreet award for best research group. CeADAR is a founder along with NextGeneration of the annual European Data Science Awards.
Prior to being appointed Director of CeADAR, Edward was European Director of Innovation & Technology Research at Fidelity Investments. The role involved prospecting for FinTech technology and investment opportunities across Europe, understanding developments in the European innovation ecosystem, and directing technology trials. Edward has also held various technical and global senior management roles in the Office of Strategy and Technology at Hewlett-Packard Europe based in England.
Edward has a PhD in Analytics and AI from the University of Edinburgh, is a Fellow of the IEE & ICS, and is the named inventor on 76 granted patents. He has been awarded several international prizes including the Scientific American top 50 technologies that demonstrate outstanding leadership, Grand Award and Overall Winner for Innovation, Popular Science (USA), Horizon Award “10 Cool Cutting Edge Technologies”, Computer World (USA).
John Byrne
John Byrne is founder and CEO of Corlytics, responsible for setting the company’s vision and strategy.
He is a serial entrepreneur in the financial technology sector, John has built and sold a number of global technology-based enterprises. He co-founded one of the first campus companies in Ireland in 1985 in the energy technology sector and built Information Mosaic in 1997, a global player in the securities software industry which was sold to Markit in 2015.
He set up Corlytics to provide real regularly risk intelligence. Following a tsunami of global regulation arrived for the financial markets in 2009, John realised there was no joined up intelligence and predictive analytics to help the banks, regulators and their advisors make informed decisions. Corlytics was formed in 2013 and today is the global leader in regulatory risk intelligence.
John is a frequent speaker at industry events and has spoken at events such as SIBOS and NEMA. He has also spoken at many other conferences on operational and systemic risk and more recently at RegTech Summits in London and New York.
John is a graduate of Stanford Business School and has a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering.
Noelle Doody
Noelle Doody is SSE Airtricity’s Head of Analytics and holds a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering and a MSc. in Business Analytics. Prior to joining SSE Airtricity, Noelle was a Senior Manager in Accenture’s Fraud Analytics Centre of Excellence and led analytics projects in a variety of industries including utilities, health, public services, financial services and telecommunications. In SSE Airticity, Noelle leads a team focused on a variety of analytics applications including business intelligence, customer analytics, operational analytics, forecasting and financial modelling and optimisation.
Allan Kearns
Dr Allan Kearns is Head of Analytics within Financial Supervision in the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI). He oversees the extraction of insights from regulatory reporting and market sources to enhance the Central Bank’s monitoring and risk assessment of regulated financial services firms. Prior to this role, Allan has held a number of roles including Deputy Chief Risk Officer, International Relations and Economist. Allan lectures on risk management topics domestically and internationally, including corporate governance and culture. He is board chair of the Asthma Society of Ireland.
Ronan O’Connell
Ronan O’ Connell holds the position of Senior Director, Advanced Analytics, at SAP, the world leader in enterprise applications and third largest independent software manufacturer in the world. Ronan is also the Operations Site Lead for Business Intelligence & Analytics at SAP Ireland.
Ronan has over 20 years experience in the Tech Industry. He began his studies at University College Dublin with a Bachelor of Commerce specialising in Management Information Systems. He followed this by studying Software Engineering at Griffith College Dublin.
Prior to joining SAP, Ronan worked as a development expert in the enterprise software and mobile space, and later specialized in the area of Cloud SaaS solutions. In 2005, he co-founded a mobile start-up. Ronan next founded his own software consultancy company, working for numerous large international clients to deliver enterprise applications across the HR, Financial and Banking sectors.
While an engineer at heart, Ronan transitioned into the world of Data Science, Machine Learning and AI at SAP in 2014, when he was promoted to the leadership team to scale up a new mission from zero in the Advanced Analytics domain. He is currently responsible for a number of strategic missions across SAP Advanced Analytics portfolio, and is focused on delivering value to customers through embedded machine intelligence.
Dave O’Flanagan
Dave is co-founder and Boxever’s CEO – it’s his job to steer the ship and tell Boxever’s story to the world. He is a highly successful software executive and entrepreneur with more than 16 years’ experience building enterprise solutions in multiple industries including financial services, telecoms and travel. Gurchand Singh
Gurchand is currently the Chief Information Officer for the Department of Justice and Equality, responsible for the development of technology, analytics and research. Prior to this role, Gurchand established the Garda Síochána Analysis Service which provided strategic and operational analytics to support policing in Ireland. Gurchand arrived to this position from the UK, where he worked in the Home Office in a variety of roles, including Programme Director for Crime and Drugs Analysis and Research.

Dónal Travers
Dónal Travers is the Head of IDA’s Enterprise Technology Group, which has responsibility for securing investments from the global technology sector for Ireland. Dónal leads a team across Europe and North America, which works with some of the world’s leading enterprise technology companies with the aim of scaling their presence in Ireland.
Dónal joined IDA Ireland in 1997 and has held a number of roles in the intervening period, including five years based in IDA’s Silicon Valley office, managing the organisation’s business development on the West Coast of North America. Before his current role, he managed IDA’s Professional Services and global BPO business in Dublin. Dónal is a graduate of Dublin City University.
Triona McCormack
Triona McCormack has worked in the higher education and research sector for over 10 years and is Director of Research at University College Dublin. She contributes to the development of research across all disciplines and is responsible for research strategy, management and operations across the Institution. Prior to joining UCD, Triona was Director of Consulting for Ireland and European Practice Leader for Organisational Effectiveness at Hudson Highland. She worked extensively with organisations in the US and Europe across a broad range of sectors from utilities to financial services. She is a member of a number of advisory groups and contributes to research and innovation policy nationally and in the EU.
Oisin Boydell
Dr Oisín Boydell is Principal Data Scientist and Head of the Applied Research Group at CeADAR, Ireland’s centre for Applied AI at University College Dublin. His primary research interests include deep learning and machine learning, real-time analytics and blockchain technology. After working as a software developer in the UK, Oisín returned to UCD to undertake a PhD in Computer Science, researching novel approaches for personalized information retrieval. Prior to joining CeADAR he worked for a number of years in the research and innovation team at ChangingWorlds Ltd (subsequently acquired by Amdocs Ltd) where he developed big data analytics and machine learning solutions for the telecommunications industry. At CeADAR, Oisín leads industry focussed research projects in collaboration with industry partners across a broad range of technology areas including machine learning, deep learning, blockchain, recommender systems, data stream processing and real-time analytics.
Ricardo Simon Carbajo
Dr. Ricardo Simon Carbajo is Senior Research Fellow in CeADAR and is responsible for EU Research & Innovation. Prior to joining CeADAR he was Adjunct Lecturer and Post-Doctoral Researcher in Trinity College Dublin and Dublin City University.
Ricardo holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Leon (Spain), an M.Sc. in Networks and Distributed Systems and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Trinity College Dublin (Ireland). His research background includes areas such as wireless networking, distributed systems, signal processing, sensor data fusion, real-time data analytics and machine learning, with application to inter-disciplinary projects on cooperative wireless networks, wind turbine health monitoring, machinery failure prediction and 3D human motion capture and analysis. Ricardo also has experience in entrepreneurship, as founder of a startup company, and is active in transforming research into innovation.
Robert Ross
Robert Ross is a senior lecturer in the School of Computing at Technological University Dublin. Robert holds a BSc and MSc from University College Dublin, and a PhD in Situated Dialogue Systems from the University of Bremen in Germany. Robert’s research interests include data analytics, natural language processing, and interactive systems.
Robert has led several projects at the CeADAR centre, including SmartContact and Speak+Seek.
Declan McEvoy
Declan McEvoy is CEO of FinTech start-up Coalface Capital. The mission is to apply AI to the Investment Management arena. He has spent his career in the Investment Banking FICC area, working in Sales & Trading at Chase, BarCap and UBS and holding management positions at Citigroup and Standard Chartered Bank. He holds a BBS from DCU and an MBA from London Business School.
Kevin Burke
Kevin is Director of ICT Commercialisation with Enterprise Ireland. He has a significant amount of research commercialiation experience, having worked as a Senior ICT Commercialisation Specialist for Enterprise Ireland with a number of Research Performing Organisations including NUIG, UCD and TCD.
Kevin has previous experience of working with a number of ICT Technology Centres, has managed Enterprise Ireland’s Business Partners Programme (a complementary cofounders programme for RPO spin-out teams) and continues to work across Enterprise Ireland’s wider spin-out pipeline. Kevin is a graduate of NUIG, UCD and IMI.
JoeHutchinson
Mr Joe Hutchinson is Vice President, Technology Group Manager, in IDA Ireland, Ireland’s foreign direct investment (FDI) agency. His current role includes responsibility for the attraction of enterprise technology company FDI from the East Coasts of the U.S. and Canada. It also includes oversight of a portfolio of almost 50 existing clients.
Prior to his current role, Joe spent over three years as Deputy Director of the Trade Promotion Section in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Prior to this Joe spent over eight years in IDA Ireland in a range of Divisions in Ireland and overseas. He has also worked for Barclaycard International.
Joe’s academic background is in International Business and Languages (German and Spanish). Joe served on a wide range of external Committees/Boards/Groups, e.g. Start-up Gathering 2015, High Level Group on International Education, Start-up Entrepreneur Programme and Immigrant Investor Programme Evaluation Committee, and the Research Prioritisation Action Group.
